The National Tongan American Society (NTAS) with Fahina Tavake-Pasi as executive director and Ivoni Nash as program coordinator is located in Salt Lake City, Utah. NTAS received its 501c3 status in 1994 and began serving members of the Pacific Islander population.
The primary mission of NTAS is to create and maintain health education programs, health management and resource in an effort to decrease health disparities. Its services are available to all Pacific Islanders, their families, and their friends. In addition, it seeks to encourage the Tongan “‘ofa faka-kāinga” (extended-family love and care) that crosses ethnicity, national origins, gender, and religious boundaries.
It conducts classes for Chronic Disease Self-Management Programs, assists with citizenship issues and Medicaid enrollment. Currently, it is conducting a cancer program that focuses on women with a goal to increase screening for breast cancer and cervical cancer.
